Massage/Myofascial Release
Cynthia originally trained in massage in the Esalen/Swedish style beginning in 1982. In 2000, after a 15 year career as a Dance Movement Therapist she returned to her massage practice, this time continuing her training with John Barnes and Myofascial Release.

What is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle and sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Compression and extension of the tissues encourages the body to return to a more functional alignment.
Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)
Everyone has a different goal in coming to receive bodywork. The use of various techniques allows Cynthia to look at each patient as a unique individual. Sessions may include deep tissue massage and effleurage as an adjunct to fascial work or vice versa. As a long time practitioner and MFR specialist, she continues to educate herself and cultivate her intuition to better serve her clientele. She also encourages independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, self treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness if the client is amenable to this. Her philosophy encourages self-care as a partnership in wellness through Yoga, massage and MFR.
